ObjectiveTo grasp the level of health literacy among farmers in Guangxi province, provide the guidance basis for health care, health education and health promotion. MethodsStratified multistage cluster and PPS sampling methods were adopted in the surveillance, non collective residents aged 15-69 years from 17 monitoring points were investigated, and 3474 effective questionnaires were analysed. ResultsThe overall level of health literacy of farmers in Guangxi was 4.84%, the overall lerel of the female were higher than that of the male, the overall Han nationality was the highest, and the level of the other national minority was the lower, the level of literacy decreases with age increasing, the higher the culture degree, the higher the level of health literacy. The level of health literacy in three aspects were: basic knowledge and concepts was 8.72%, life style and behavior was 8.15%,and basic health skills was 5.87%. The level of health literacy in six health issues were: safety and first aid was 30.66%, scientific view of health was 17.24%, prevention of communicable diseases was 13.79%，health information was 9.44%, basic medical care was 8.06% and prevention of chronic diseases was 6.22%. Multivariate regression analysis showed that both nationality and degree of education were the factors influencing the health literacy level of farmers. ConclusionsThe level of health literacy of farmers in Guangxi is at a low level, especially in basic health skills and chronic diseases, we should develop vigorously health literacy promotion action of farmers with targeted measures.
