Objective To investigate the effect of Qihuang Furong decoction in the treatment of lower extremity peripheral vascular disease patients with diabetes and its impacts on lower extremity microcirculation and vascular growth factors. Methods A total of 108 lower extremity peripheral vascular disease patients with diabetes were selected as research subjects and randomly divided into a control group or an observation group, with 54 cases in each group. The control group was treated routinely, based on which the observation group was treated with Qihuang Furong decoction, and both groups were treated for 4 weeks. The clinical efficacy, traditional Chinese medicine syndromes scores, lower extremity microcirculation indexes, and levels of vascular growth factors and endothelial progenitor cells of the two groups were compared. Results After 4 weeks of treatment, the total effective rate of patients in the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the scores of lower extremity pain, lower extremity coldness, lower extremity numbness, and lower extremity hypoesthesia syndromes were lower than those of the control group, and the maximum systolic blood flow velocity of posterior tibial artery, maximum systolic blood flow velocity of dorsal pedis artery, inner diameter of the posterior tibial artery, inner diameter of the dorsal pedis artery, and serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor, alkaline fibroblast growth factor, and platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor, as well as endothelial progenitor cells level in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, were higher/larger than those of the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusion Qihuang Furong decoction combined with routine treatment can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms of lower extremity peripheral vascular disease patients with diabetes, improve lower extremity microcirculation, promote the growth of blood vessels, and improve the treatment effect.
