Objective To visually analyze the development status, hot spots, and cutting-edge of domestic and overseas research on hypertension patients' self-management based on CiteSpace. Methods Literature related to the research on hypertension patients' self-management from January 2000 to March 2023 was retrieved from CNKI and Web of Science databases. CiteSpace 6.3.R1 software was used to build visual knowledge graphs of authors, institutions, and keywords of the domestic and overseas research on hypertension patients' self-management, and the cooperative network analyses of authors and institutions, as well as the co-occurrence and emergence analyses of keywords, were carried out. Results A total of 3,395 papers were included, including 1,511 in Chinese and 1,884 in English. In the hypertension patients' self-management field, the number of papers published, domestically and overseas, showed a trend of increasing at first and decreasing after; the country with the largest number of papers was the United States, and China ranked the second; the author with the largest number of papers was Bosworth Heiden B. The main researched population for hypertension patients' self-management in China was the elderly, most researches combined with nursing intervention and health education, and the field involved community and family. Overseas, researches on hypertension patients' self-management focused on its combination with coronary heart disease (coronary heart disease) and blood dialysis (short daily hemodialysis), and paid attention to patients' healthy behaviors (healthy behavior) and outcome indicators (patient outcome measure); in terms of research methods, cross-sectional study (community-based multicentre cross-sectional study) was mostly used. The focuses of the domestic and overseas emerging keywords presented their own emphases, with overseas research mainly on self-management education, randomized trials, meta-analysis, mobile phones, etc., while domestic research mainly on nursing intervention, quality of life improvement, effect evaluation, etc.. Conclusion There are many studies on hypertension patients' self-management domestically and overseas, researches of hypertension patients' self-management with a supporter of online platforms may be a research hotspot in this field in the future.
