ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of crime between the mental suspects with and without criminal capacity in a certain Districts of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.MethodsA retrospective case-control study was employed and the self-made demographic questionnaire and the BPRS were used to investigate the 147 criminal cases evaluated by forensic psychiatrists from January 2009 to January 2010 in the fifth hospital of Nanning city, the Guangxi zhuang autonomous region.Results(1) As for criminal type,there were mainly murder and injury in the incapacity group,and schizophrenia was the most common diagnostic classification（80.2%）,while mainly injury,rape and theft in the capacity group. As for marriage status,most of them were single and the female accounted for the lower proportion (7.1%) in the capacity group.There were statistic significance between the two groups in above variables of the two groups (The chi-square test,P＜0.05).However,there was no statistic significance in the following variables such as age,culture,occupation, formal criminal history,formal psychotic history,family history and so on (P＞0.05).(2) The differences of BPRS total score and some factors such as thought disorder,activation and hostility/suspiciousness subscales score had statistic significance(P＜0.05) between two groups,while the differences of anxiety/depression and anergia subscales score had no statistic significance(P＞0.05).ConclusionThe gender,marriage,legal classification,and thought disorder,activation and hostility/suspiciousness in psychiatric symptom might be the in inspect evidence of mental suspects with and without criminal capacity.
