ObjectiveTo explore the clinical efficacy of Xinxibao combined with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) massage and acupoint application in the treatment of children with anorexia. MethodsA total of 86 children with anorexia admitted to our hospital from June 2018 to June 2020 were selected, and they were divided into combination group and control group according to the random number method, with 43 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Xinxibao, based on which the combination group was supplemented by TCM massage and acupoint application, for a four-week continuous treatment. The clinical efficacy, pre- and post-treatment appetite and food intake scores, and the pre- and post-treatment peripheral blood calcium and zinc levels, as well as the occurrence of adverse reactions, were compared or detected between the two groups. ResultsAfter 4 weeks of treatment, the total effective rate of the combination group (93.02%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (76.74%), with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). The appetite and food intake scores significantly decreased, whereas the levels of blood calcium and zinc significantly increased in both groups. As compared with the control group, the combination group yielded lower scores of appetite and food intake, while higher levels of blood calcium and zinc, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). There were no abnormalities in the test results of the routine of blood and urine, liver and kidney functions in both groups after treatment, and no obvious adverse reactions occurred during the treatment. ConclusionXinxibao combined with TCM massage, acupoint application in the treatment of children with anorexia has a good clinical effect, which is of significant advantages for improving the symptoms of children and increasing the levels of trace elements, with a preferable safety.
