ObjectiveTo explore the clinical efficacy of olanzapine combined with drum circle music in the treatment of elderly patients with schizophrenia. MethodsA total of 120 elderly patients with schizophrenia who were hospitalized in the Fifth People′s Hospital of Nanning from September 2019 to December 2020 were selected as the research objects. They were divided into study group and control group by the random number method, with 60 cases in each group. Patients in the control group were treated with olanzapine, while patients in the study group were treated with olanzapine combined with drum circle music, for a 12-week treatment course. The Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) scores of the two groups before and after treatment were compared. The Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS) scores and the occurrence of adverse reactions during the treatment were compared between the two groups. ResultsBefore treatment, there were no statistically significant differences between the total scores of BPRS and the scores of each factor between the two groups (P>0.05). At the end of the 12th week of treatment, the total scores of BPRS, the scores of each factor including anxiety and depression, lack of vitality, thought disturbance, excitement, and hostility and suspiciousness of the study group were significantly lower than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The study group yielded a higher total effective rate (90.0%) as compared with the control group (74.6%), with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05). During the course of treatment, the TESS scores and the incidence of adverse reactions in the study group were lower than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). ConclusionOlanzapine combined with drum circle music has significantly clinical efficacy in the treatment of elderly patients with schizophrenia, and the adverse drug reactions are mild, thus it is worthy of promotion and application.
